Book Review

Zenobia's Metal Quest is a short story by Trey David Wood.

Clearly a fan of Heavy Metal and Ronnie James Dio (R.I.P.) in particular, Trey has created a world, where every other landmark or person is inspired in some way by the legacy of Heavy Metal. As a fan of the genre, this is great fun to read, not only to do a bit of metalspotting, but also for the story at hand, which is swiftly told, with a strong sense of humor and no small sense of self.

The story is a feast of references but also interesting enough to keep my eyes open, even if it feels more like a moment in time, taken from a much larger world and really needs a greater amount of world building in order to be completely convincing. I see this as a quick foray into a world with great potential, an opening trailer for something much bigger, a proof of concept, so to say, and to succeed as a book it must grab this potential, take it to new heights by fleshing out the world and everything in it, and most important of all, turn that knob to 11.

Overall, this is enjoyable in a silly but excellent way. You can get it for $1 at Amazon. If you enjoy heavy metal and a bit of reading, you should check this out.

Steen is too kind! I had discontinued the novella while working on the full-length novel (won't be ready until later this year), but in light of this excellent recommendation, I've made the novella available on Amazon again for a limited time. Might take it a few hours to show up, but it will be there by tomorrow...Thank you.
