Quick Review

"Charging through the night, her engine roars
With screaming tires, spewing flames
Knocking at hells door, she's a metal monster"

One Word Review: Hallowed

I discovered Bloodbound recently, when I was researching what had become of one of my favorite AOR bands, Street Talk. It turned out that Fredrik Bergh had transitioned into Power Metal along with Tomas Olsson, who briefly appeared in Street Talk, with their new band Bloodbound, formed in 2004. Nosferatu is their debut from 2006, and it is a celebration of Heavy Metal in every way.

The musicianship is top notch and the songs are pretty much all melodic heavy metal bliss, and with Urban Breed on vocals, everything is delivered with great power and feeling.

The opening track, Behind The Moon, clearly channels Iron Maiden, ranging from Number of the Beast through to Fear of The Dark and Fallen From Grace is vintage Helloween. Fortunately the band deliver their songs with such conviction and joy, that these clear inspirations never become grating, they just gave me a wide smile. That smile stays on for the duration of the album, as it delivers one infectious song after the other, where melody, power and drive reign supreme. What they lack in originality, they make up for in spirit.

All the way through, the album holds up, and I really can't believe that I missed these guys for so long. The band has released 7 albums to date, and I can't wait to dive into those and see how they evolve.
