Interview with Kevin Steele - Mojo Gurus
Written by Michael

I got this from Kevin Steele management concerning his response to this email interview.

"Kevin just had fun with your questions and didn't take it too serious. Please read them in the spirit they were intended."

What's the story behind Roxx Gang being on hiatus and Kevin Steele continuing in Mojo Gurus?

I got sick of being dissed and dismissed as an 80's hair band. There is so much more to us than that.

Why Mojo Gurus - Was there anything that you felt you couldn't do within the Roxx Gang name?

Yeah, sell records.

Who's playing in Mojo Gurus?

It's the same band with a new name and a new sound.

"Drinkin' TNT and smokin' dynamite" was originally released as a Roxx Gang album. Are you not afraid that people get confused. Personally I am a bit confused because on the promo album to Mojo Gurus latest album "Hot Damn" the name Roxx Gang is printed instead. Furthermore the song "Spoonful" is included on the new album and it was also on Roxx Gang's Greatest Hits album. Please explain.

That's Tom Mathers fault. He did that without our consent. We're a band in transition, some songs
overlapped. Big deal!

How would you describe a Mojo Gurus album in contrast to a Roxx Gang album?

The Gurus are roots rock, swamp, blues, rockabilly.

Roxx Gang was dark glam, hard rock.

To me "Hot Damn" sounds like the perfect soundtrack to "Pulp Fiction".

Is that a question?

Lately there has been lot's of package tours featuring Hard Rock bands like the Poison tours and currently the Metal Sludge tour (Faster Pussycat/Enuff Z'nuff/Pretty Boy Floyd). Why hasn't Roxx Gang been offered a support slot on any of the 80's Tours and which band would be included on your favorite package tour?

Roxx Gang is on hiatus and the Gurus wouldn't play with Pretty Boy Floyd for a million dollars!! That's exactly the stupid silly shit we're trying to disassociate our selves from. Although we're proud of our past we plan on doing this forever and I have no desire to be 40 years old wearing make-up, tight pants and singing "Scratch My Back." The Rolling Stones are a band I'd like to be on a package tour with.

Which of your songs are you most proud of?

All of them.

What song do you wish that you had written?

Wild Horses

You have active in the music business for 3 decades. What are the highlights of Kevin Steele's career in the 80's, 90's and the new millennium so far.

80's
Cocaine

90's
Extasy

New millennium
The Mojo Gurus ongoing quest to conquer the world.

Is there anything that you regret doing in your career?

Well I'm starting to regret doing this interview.

Perris Records is releasing a Roxx Gang live album later this year. Is the album already recorded? and if yes, where and what songs are gonna be included? Any Mojo Gurus material?

No, I'm not sure yet, and definitely not!

What are Mojo Gurus and Kevin Steele's plans for the future?

To stay as high as possible and try to get a little more sleep.

Thank you for taking time to do the interview and good luck in the future.

Your welcome.
