Jamie Walters - Believed
You might think Jamie Walters wasn't he the guy?

Yes, he was - get over it. It is time that people start listening with their ears instead of their eyes. Jamie Walters released 2 albums when he was starring the 90210-television show. Both albums featured strong melodic rock based in the US sing & songwriter tradition, not unlike Springsteen and John Mellencamp.

Since the release of his last album 5 years ago Jamie has played clubs around Los Angeles and basically grown as a musician. Now he is releasing his new solo effort "Believed".

This time Jamie is on his own writing and producing all songs. On his first albums he was only co-writing his songs with Steve Tyrell and Kevin Savigar. Both albums also featured the famous session musician Michael Landau on guitars.

Now Jamie Walters is on an indie label giving him more artistic freedom and responsibility in influencing his own material. This time Jamie has taken total control writing all songs and even producing 10 out of 11 songs on "Believed". This album is proving that Jamie is capable of standing on his own.

The album opener Evilyn is among the strongest songs on this disc. Evilyn characterizes the overall style quite good since it is a solid rock song driven by both electric and acoustic guitars. The song is a mid-tempo Rocker driven by Jamie Walters' voice. You can easily hear that there are more "balls" in his voice, which is not sounding polished this time. The rawer style suits the songs well on this album.

The style is kept within the melodic Rock limits. The album contains a couple of ballads with the acoustic ballad Catch Me being the strongest. The ballad is mostly just Jamie and his acoustic guitar, but it holds up fine and is one of my personal favorites. There are full-blown rockers like Better Off Dead and Marooned.

The album finished off with the moody rocker Superman. The dark guitar creates an emotional ending to Jamie's third solo album.

Overall this is a great Rock album. Jamie has a great voice, which fits the semi-acoustic Rock songs that are his trademark. Immediate "Believed" is not as straightforward and catchy as his previous work, but if you give it some playing time it certainly grows on you.

If you have any of his 2 first records you won't be disappointed purchasing this one.
