Quick Review

Buffy The Vampire Slayer was a TV show with vampires, action and a high school setting. Through the seasons it brought a deep mythology to life and remains one of my favorite TV shows. It somehow managed to marry all kind of elements into something very special. This meant that deep down the focus was on all kinds of relatable problems and the supernatural setting just made it that much more exciting. The creators infused everything with a great sense of humor, which is quite unique and can only be described as Whedonesque. I remember my sister recommending this series and I brushing it off at first, but when I gave it a chance I was sold immediately.

Season 2 is clearly my favorite. Season 6 and 7 sadly saw the show descend into a soapy void, where decisions and behaviour of main characters didn't make sense anymore, even if I understand the "need" and ideas behind the motivation to move the series on and handle more mature issues. It just failed miserably. The first five seasons remain some of my favorite TV and in hindsight, it would have been perfectly fitting for the show to end with Season 5. The placement on my Top 100 reflects my impression of the first five seasons.

With this show, I became a Joss Whedon fan for life.
