Whereas John Wick paints a cold, cartoony sketch of seemingly emotionless characters, Blue Jasmine portrays its characters with a sincerely real life quality and no matter how far out the characters' actions are, they are understood because the actors have successfully created rounded people with emotions that feel real.
That is also the best thing about Blue Jasmine, its interesting and fleshed out characters which bring depth to the story. A great part of this comes down to excellent performances (Cate Blanchett is particularly impressive), a solid script and a director who understands the characters.
