Quick Review

I finally decided to watch this Alfred Hitchcock thriller from 1959 and was pleasantly surprised to find it both charming and engaging. There is a certain pleasant feel to the whole thing as Cary Grant's busy marketing executive finds himself entangled in an increasingly absurd case of mistaken identity as he runs from both the law and criminals across America.

Memorable scenes are scattered throughout the movie. I thought the drunk driving scene was hilarious, the first meeting of the two lead characters on the train was mesmerizing, the crop duster scene was strangely unsettling and the Mount Rushmore climax, nerve wrecking. The final scene showcases the sense of humor that runs through the movie. It is quite genius. The score by Bernard Hermann gives the movie a special atmosphere too.

North By Northwest marries suspense, romance and a great sense of humor into a classy movie.
